The 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony has recognised some of football’s biggest performers, with England international Harry Kane and Spain’s Alexia Putellas taking the leading individual prizes in the men’s and women’s categories.
Kane’s recognition followed an impressive season with Bayern Munich, earning him one of the most coveted honours in world football. His success also placed him among the few English players to have won the men’s award, following Michael Owen’s triumph in 2001.
Putellas added another major milestone to her career by securing the women’s award. The Spanish midfielder had previously won the honour in 2021 and 2022, further strengthening her reputation as one of the outstanding figures in women’s football.
Young Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal was also among the celebrated names, winning the men’s young player award. His club teammate Vicky López claimed the corresponding women’s prize, highlighting the growing influence of Barcelona’s emerging talents.
In the goalkeeping categories, Spain’s Unai Simón and Barcelona’s Cata Coll were named the best male and female goalkeepers. Spain coach Luis de la Fuente and Barcelona women’s manager Pere Romeu received the coaching awards, while Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona were recognised as the outstanding clubs in the men’s and women’s categories.
Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka received the Sócrates Award for his humanitarian work. Kane also claimed the men’s striker prize, while Mexican forward Charlyn Corral won the women’s equivalent.
