The Dangote Group has called for stronger domestic manufacturing as a key step towards making Nigeria’s economy more resilient and competitive. The appeal was made at the Abuja International Trade Fair, where industry stakeholders discussed the challenges and opportunities facing businesses.

The group said Nigeria could strengthen its economy by reducing reliance on imported products that can be produced locally. It argued that expanding domestic production would help keep more economic value within the country while creating opportunities for businesses along various supply chains.

It also highlighted investments in areas such as cement, sugar, fertiliser, packaging, petrochemicals and petroleum refining as part of efforts to expand Nigeria’s industrial capacity. According to the group, stronger manufacturing would support job creation, develop technical skills and provide opportunities for smaller businesses supplying larger industries.

The company further stressed that trade and taxation should operate alongside a productive industrial base. It called for an investment environment that is predictable and supportive of businesses, saying this would encourage manufacturers to expand, create jobs and compete in international markets.

The call comes as businesses continue to contend with economic pressures, including changing exchange rates, taxation and international trade conditions. The group maintained that building Nigeria’s capacity to produce, compete and export would be important to sustaining long-term economic growth.
