Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to discuss the Palestinian crisis and the urgent need for a comprehensive settlement that can bring lasting peace and stability to the Middle East.
During the meeting, held on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in New Delhi, India, el-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting Palestinian rights and pursuing a resolution based on international law. He stressed that a lasting solution must address the underlying causes of the conflict and guarantee the Palestinian people’s legitimate aspirations.
The Egyptian leader also highlighted ongoing diplomatic efforts, in coordination with other mediators, to advance the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that sufficient humanitarian assistance, including essential supplies, reaches civilians affected by the conflict.
Guterres, in turn, acknowledged Egypt’s diplomatic contributions and its cooperation with the United Nations in promoting peace, dialogue and stability across the Middle East and Africa. Both sides underscored the importance of international cooperation in addressing regional conflicts and strengthening humanitarian support.
The discussions come amid continuing international efforts to secure a sustainable resolution to the Palestinian question. Egypt maintains that a just and comprehensive settlement, including the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, is essential to achieving enduring peace in the region.
