Former world champion George Groves believes Anthony Joshua faces a difficult assignment against Tyson Fury and has proposed an unusual solution: bringing heavyweight legend Mike Tyson into his camp.
Groves argues that Joshua needs to rethink his approach if he hopes to overcome Fury in their much-anticipated all-British heavyweight contest. Rather than relying primarily on his strength and punching power, he wants Joshua to adopt a more aggressive style that allows him to attack from close range.
The former super-middleweight champion pointed to Mike Tyson’s ability to fight effectively against taller opponents as a major reason Joshua should seek his guidance. He believes the American’s techniques could help Joshua use defensive head movement, quick changes of direction and powerful uppercuts to create openings against Fury.
Joshua’s recent victory over Kristian Prenga, achieved despite being knocked down twice, demonstrated his ability to recover under pressure. Fury also recorded a stoppage win against Polish veteran Mariusz Wach, setting the stage for renewed attention on their rivalry.
However, the proposed partnership faces a potential obstacle. Mike Tyson has publicly backed Fury, explaining that the heavyweight was named after him and that he would like to see him defeat Joshua. His declared loyalty could make it difficult for Joshua to secure his services.
Groves is also unconvinced that Joshua can withstand Fury’s attacks over an extended period. He considers Fury the stronger contender and believes his ability to establish punching range, combined with his size, could prove decisive.
The former champion has gone as far as predicting that Fury could end the fight within three rounds. In his assessment, Joshua would be particularly vulnerable if Fury lands clean punches early and prevents him from settling into the contest.
Despite the prediction, the proposed showdown remains a major attraction for boxing fans eager to see the long-standing rivalry settled inside the ring.
