Fresh exchanges of drone and missile attacks between Russia and Ukraine have left two people dead and 19 others injured within 24 hours, according to officials from both countries. The attacks came as diplomatic preparations continued for proposed negotiations aimed at finding a way to end the prolonged conflict.
In Russia’s Voronezh region, Governor Alexander Gusev reported that a Ukrainian drone attack killed two people and injured 17 others. He said debris from intercepted drones damaged a train, leaving several passengers among the injured, while fires and damage were reported at residential and commercial locations.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry said its forces had struck several Ukrainian military and infrastructure targets, including drone storage facilities and power installations. It also reported attacks on port facilities and cargo vessels in Ukraine’s Odesa region, claiming the ships were carrying supplies for Ukrainian forces.
On the Ukrainian side, regional authorities reported that Russian strikes injured two civilians in the Zaporizhzhia region and damaged homes and other facilities. Ukraine’s Air Force said its air defenses intercepted 112 out of 140 drones and three guided missiles launched during the latest Russian aerial assault.
The latest attacks occurred ahead of expected trilateral discussions involving Russia, Ukraine and the United States in Abu Dhabi during the first half of November. The proposed talks are part of renewed diplomatic efforts to address the conflict, although previous negotiations have yet to produce a lasting settlement. Continued attacks on both sides highlight the significant challenges facing efforts to achieve peace.
