Healthcare professionals and other stakeholders have called for increased public education and better healthcare services for women experiencing menopause, stressing the need to address the physical and emotional challenges associated with the transition.

They noted that many women go through menopause without adequate information or professional assistance, leaving them struggling with symptoms that can affect their health, relationships and daily activities.

The stakeholders urged healthcare providers to create more opportunities for women to discuss menopause-related concerns and receive appropriate medical guidance. They also emphasised the importance of helping women understand the changes that occur during this stage of life.

Menopause, which marks the end of a woman’s menstrual periods, can be accompanied by symptoms such as hot flashes, sleep disturbances, mood changes and vaginal dryness. The intensity and duration of these experiences vary from one woman to another, making individualised healthcare support important.

The experts further highlighted the role of families, employers and communities in creating a supportive environment for women navigating this phase. They cautioned against cultural misconceptions and negative attitudes that could discourage women from seeking medical attention or speaking openly about their experiences.

They also called for healthcare workers to receive appropriate training to improve the identification and management of menopause-related conditions. According to them, accessible information and professional counselling can help women make informed decisions about managing symptoms and maintaining their wellbeing.

The stakeholders maintained that menopause should be recognised as an important women’s health issue rather than a subject surrounded by silence or embarrassment. They urged government agencies, medical institutions and advocacy groups to strengthen awareness campaigns and expand access to relevant services.

They added that improving menopause education and support would help women approach this natural stage of life with greater confidence while ensuring that those experiencing severe symptoms receive timely medical care.
