The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has urged Nigerians to report suspected counterfeit medicines and adverse reactions experienced after using drugs. The agency says public participation is important in identifying potentially dangerous products and strengthening medicine safety across the country.
The appeal is aimed at encouraging consumers, healthcare professionals and other stakeholders to promptly alert the relevant authorities whenever they suspect that a medicine is fake, substandard or causing an unexpected reaction. Early reporting can help regulators investigate complaints and take appropriate action where necessary.
NAFDAC advised the public to use the MedSafety application, available on Android and iOS devices, to report suspected adverse reactions to medicines, vaccines and medical devices. Reports can also be submitted through the agency’s e-reporting platform at its official website, nafdac.gov.ng, or by email to [email protected].
For suspected counterfeit, falsified or unregistered medical products, the agency recommended its Greenbook application and online resources. Nigerians were also encouraged to verify product registration details through NAFDAC’s product monitoring system before purchasing or using medicines.
The agency further reminded pharmaceutical businesses and distributors that product recalls must follow established procedures, including submitting product identification details, batch numbers, expiry dates, distribution records and proposed corrective measures. NAFDAC stressed that prompt reporting and verification are essential steps towards protecting consumers and preventing unsafe medical products from reaching more people.
