A court has ordered the removal of a National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the House of Representatives in Edo State, in a ruling that could affect the party’s participation in the constituency’s electoral contest.
The decision places the candidate’s eligibility and the party’s nomination process under judicial scrutiny. The ruling is expected to have implications for the NDC as it considers the legal and political steps available following the court’s decision.
The case was brought by Omo-Osagie Efosa, who challenged the party’s declaration of Uyi Frank Omosigho as its candidate. The judge reportedly found that Efosa’s participation in the primary was supported by evidence from returning officers and ward chairmen, while the party failed to establish that Omosigho had participated in and won the exercise.
The court consequently directed the NDC to submit Efosa’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as its candidate for Oredo Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections. Omosigho, however, indicated that he intended to pursue further legal action, urging his supporters to remain calm while the judicial process continues.
