A development pledge has been made to establish a common facility centre for leather and garment producers in Aba, Abia State, in a move aimed at strengthening local manufacturing and supporting small-scale businesses in the city’s industrial clusters.
Anosike said the proposed centre would provide shared facilities and equipment to artisans and manufacturers, helping them improve production processes and reduce the cost of operating individually. The initiative is expected to support the growth of Aba’s established leatherwork and garment-making industries.
The facility is also intended to improve the competitiveness of local producers by providing access to resources that may be difficult for individual businesses to acquire. Better production infrastructure could help artisans improve the quality of their products, increase output and meet the demands of wider markets.
Aba is widely recognised for its entrepreneurial culture and concentration of small and medium-sized enterprises involved in footwear, leather goods, clothing and related products. Stakeholders have continued to call for improved infrastructure, financing and modern equipment to help businesses expand beyond local markets.
The proposed common facility centre represents a commitment to supporting the city’s manufacturing sector. Its eventual impact will depend on implementation, access for the intended beneficiaries and the availability of reliable equipment and services to help Aba’s leather and garment producers grow sustainably.
