A 32-year-old man, Ifeanyi Obi, has been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command over alleged thefts involving mobile phones at hotels in three communities across the state.
The suspect was picked up in the early hours of Sunday, October 25, by operatives of the Amanuke Police Division following investigations into reported incidents in Awka, Isuaniocha and Mgbakwu.
Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga disclosed on Monday that investigators reviewed surveillance footage from the affected locations, which allegedly connected Obi to the reported thefts.
During questioning, the suspect reportedly admitted taking five Android phones from hotels in the communities. Police said further investigations were underway to recover the missing devices and determine whether other people were involved.
The command is also working to establish the full extent of the alleged offences as the investigation continues.
Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Ama, urged hotel managers, business operators and members of the public to improve security arrangements and promptly report suspicious activities to the authorities.
The police assured residents that the case would be thoroughly investigated and that further information would be released as developments emerge.
