The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old woman following the death of her six-year-old stepson, Mubarak Ibrahim, in Kwaimawa village, Alkaleri Local Government Area. The incident has prompted an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the young boy’s death.
According to preliminary reports, the child allegedly became seriously ill and began vomiting uncontrollably after drinking a beverage reportedly given to him by his stepmother, identified as Fatima Ibrahim, on October 16, 2026.
In an attempt to save his life, Mubarak was initially taken to a primary health center in Kwaimawa before being transferred to the Federal Medical Centre in Gombe for further treatment. Despite receiving medical attention for eight days, the boy reportedly died on October 24.
Police said the case came to their attention after a report was made by the village head of Kwaimawa, prompting detectives to begin investigating the incident. The stepmother was subsequently arrested in connection with the suspected culpable homicide.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue to establish the full circumstances of the child’s death. Authorities have reiterated the importance of protecting children and urged members of the public to report suspicious incidents while allowing the law to take its course.
