Support for Abia State Governor Alex Otti’s second-term ambition has received a boost following the presentation of two Sienna vehicles by leaders of Eziukwu Road Market, Aba, popularly called Cemetery Market.
The donation was made on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, during a meeting between the governor and a delegation of the market association at his office. The delegation was led by the association’s leader, Chief Greg Okafor, also known as Owelle.
Speaking on behalf of the traders, Ambassador Mike Okoro said the vehicles represented the market community’s appreciation for the administration’s work in Aba and its commitment to supporting the governor’s re-election bid in 2027.
He said the traders were encouraged by the government’s proposed transformation of Eziukwu Road Market, particularly the assurances that the exercise would take their commercial interests into account. According to him, the approach has helped ease concerns among traders who depend on the market for their daily income.
Okoro noted that the market’s leadership had received positive reactions from traders following the governor’s assurances, adding that several others had expressed interest in joining the delegation to convey their gratitude.
He also acknowledged the administration’s road projects across Abia, describing infrastructure development as an important factor in improving commercial activities and the livelihoods of residents. He maintained that the traders were prepared to support Otti at the polls.
Responding, the governor assured the delegation that his administration would continue pursuing policies and projects aimed at strengthening commercial activities and improving the business environment in Aba.
Otti said restoring the city’s commercial standing remained a priority, alongside efforts to improve public order, reclaim neglected spaces and rebuild public confidence. He noted that his administration had pursued these objectives since taking office in 2023.
The governor said the achievements recorded so far were made possible by the cooperation and resilience of Abia residents, alongside God’s grace.
Addressing concerns about the proposed market project, Otti explained that the redevelopment would be carried out in phases to reduce the impact on traders and prevent unnecessary interruptions to their businesses.
He emphasised that the government’s objective was to improve the market’s condition while ensuring that those who earn their living there could continue operating as much as possible during the process.
“We are not here to inflict injury on anybody; we are here to support you and your business so that you can do better,” the governor said.
