The Nigeria Police Force has begun preparations to improve its performance during the 2027 general elections, with the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, assuring Nigerians that previous electoral experiences will guide its approach to the forthcoming exercise.
Disu said the police leadership was taking steps to identify weaknesses and build on lessons from earlier elections to ensure more effective policing during the next nationwide polls.
He disclosed that discussions had been held with commissioners of police and other senior officers as part of efforts to review past operations and develop strategies for better election management.
The police chief expressed optimism that the planned improvements would enhance the conduct of officers and strengthen public confidence in the force throughout the electoral process.
Disu made the remarks at the unveiling of a book documenting the history of women in the Nigeria Police Force, written by retired Deputy Commissioner of Police Dame Stella Okuyiga, aged 96. He commended the former officer for preserving an important part of the institution’s history and said the publication would be useful for training and educating police personnel.
