Former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha has been released on bail following police questioning over a document allegedly falsified to portray him as the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary in Imo West.

The matter arose after concerns were raised over the authenticity of a result sheet circulating online, which reportedly contradicted the outcome recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission. The electoral body had identified Governor Hope Uzodimma as the winner of the primary held on May 18 and reportedly referred the disputed document to security agencies for investigation.

Police spokesperson, CSP Anietie Iniedu, disclosed that Okorocha was taken in for questioning on October 12 after he was located at the REIZ Continental Hotel in Abuja. The police said the former governor was later released on bail but would be required to cooperate with investigators as they pursue the case.

The investigation reportedly followed previous invitations issued to Okorocha, with his appearance dates adjusted after requests from his legal representatives. Police authorities are seeking to establish the origin of the disputed document and determine whether any criminal offences were committed in connection with its circulation.

However, Okorocha’s media aide, Sam Onwuemeodo, disputed reports that the former governor had been arrested and subsequently granted bail. He also maintained that a court had set aside the reported arrest warrant in September. The conflicting accounts have added another dimension to the case, which remains under investigation, with no court determination of the allegations against Okorocha.
