Children from low-income households in Lagos State are set to benefit from a healthcare intervention by the Ojodu Local Council Development Area, which is funding surgical procedures for young patients whose families cannot afford the cost of treatment.

The programme is aimed at ensuring that financial difficulties do not prevent children from receiving necessary medical attention. Through the initiative, eligible beneficiaries can access surgical care and other related medical services without their families bearing the full financial burden.

The Medical Director of Ifako-Ijaiye General Hospital, Dr Taiwo Oluyemi, commended the council chairman, David Odunmbaku, for supporting the intervention. She described the effort as a practical response to the healthcare needs of vulnerable residents.

The council’s healthcare activities also include medical outreach programmes and improvements to primary healthcare facilities. According to the report, its interventions have facilitated 1,269 minor surgical procedures, while efforts have also been made to increase the number of healthcare personnel available to serve residents.

Parents and guardians whose children require medical attention have been encouraged to explore the available support. The initiative is expected to ease the pressure of medical expenses on struggling families while improving access to treatment for children in the community.
