Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has stressed that the South-East Development Commission (SEDC) must conduct its activities from the South-East to ensure that its programmes directly address the needs of the region.
Kalu, who chairs the Senate Committee on the commission, made the position known during an oversight visit to the SEDC facilities in Enugu, where he assessed the progress made in setting up its headquarters.
The senator welcomed the developments recorded so far but maintained that the commission’s presence in the region was essential to delivering meaningful development across Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states.
He disclosed that members of the committee would revisit the commission in December to evaluate its progress and determine how much work had been completed.
Kalu also noted that the earlier dispute surrounding the location of the commission’s operations had been resolved, expressing the expectation that the SEDC would remain focused on its development mandate.
