Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Mobilisation Directorate have taken their campaign activities to hospitals in Kaduna State, where they engaged patients and healthcare workers ahead of the party’s rally.
The delegation, headed by Dr Betta Edu, visited Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital and Yusuf Dansoho Memorial Hospital following a directive from First Lady Oluremi Tinubu to reach out to women and children receiving medical treatment.
The visits provided an opportunity for the delegation to discuss healthcare challenges with patients and hospital personnel while highlighting federal government programmes designed to make medical services more affordable.
Edu used the occasion to draw attention to initiatives targeting pregnant women and other vulnerable Nigerians. She said eligible expectant mothers at designated health facilities could access free maternal services, including childbirth procedures, Caesarean sections and medications.
She also highlighted government support for patients requiring expensive treatments, particularly renal dialysis and cancer care, which she said were being subsidised to ease the financial burden on affected families.
The former humanitarian affairs minister praised the First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative for supporting maternal healthcare through midwives’ training and the provision of medical equipment. She said such interventions were important in improving healthcare delivery and reducing maternal deaths.
Other members of the delegation included Senator Binta Masi Garba, Senator Abiodun Olujimi, Elizabeth Ogenyi, Ada Ode and Gloria Akobundu. Kaduna State House of Assembly Majority Leader, Munirat Tanimu, also participated in the exercise.
Some patients and beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the visit, while others welcomed government interventions they said had helped ease the challenges facing their families. Some also voiced support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, expressing hope that existing maternal healthcare programmes would be sustained and extended to more communities.
The outreach forms part of the APC women’s mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections, combining community engagement with advocacy for policies and programmes introduced by the Tinubu administration.
The directorate said the exercise reflected its intention to engage directly with vulnerable groups and draw greater attention to the healthcare needs of women, children and families.
