Jordanian security forces have arrested three suspects in connection with a deadly shooting at a Greek Orthodox church in the southern Karak region, following an intense gun battle during a security operation on Monday. The attack, which occurred during a funeral service on Friday, October 23, left at least nine people dead and more than 40 others injured.
Authorities said the suspects were tracked to an abandoned house in Al-Jadeeda village, near the scene of the attack. Security personnel reportedly came under resistance after the men refused to surrender, leading to a prolonged exchange of gunfire before the suspects were apprehended.
Jordan’s Interior Minister, Mazen Al-Faraya, confirmed that all three suspects sustained serious injuries during the confrontation. No casualties were reported among security personnel, while firearms and ammunition were recovered from the building where the suspects were found.
Officials identified the suspects as Jordanian nationals and said there was no immediate evidence linking them to external organizations. The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation, and no group had claimed responsibility for the attack at the time of the arrests.
The incident has sparked widespread concern across Jordan, prompting renewed calls for stronger security measures and accountability. King Abdullah II vowed that those responsible would face punishment, as authorities continue investigations into the circumstances surrounding one of the country’s deadliest recent attacks on civilians.
