The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested a man accused of posing as a qualified lawyer and practising illegally for more than 11 years. The arrest followed investigations into allegations that the suspect had been operating without the required legal qualifications and authorisation.
Police authorities said the case raised concerns about the activities of individuals who allegedly misrepresent themselves as legal practitioners and offer professional services without meeting the necessary requirements. Such practices can expose unsuspecting clients to financial losses and jeopardise their legal interests.
The suspect is expected to face further investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding his alleged activities, including the documents and credentials he may have used to present himself as a lawyer. Investigators are also expected to determine whether members of the public suffered losses as a result of his actions.
The development has renewed attention on the importance of verifying the credentials of legal practitioners before engaging their services. Members of the public are encouraged to confirm a lawyer’s status through the appropriate professional channels, including the Nigerian Bar Association and relevant legal authorities.
The police have reiterated the need for vigilance against suspected professional impersonation and other forms of fraud. The case is expected to proceed in accordance with the law, with the allegations to be determined through the appropriate judicial process.
