Kuwait has reportedly sentenced three individuals to death over alleged links to Iran and an alleged plot to assassinate the country’s Deputy Prime Minister. The case has heightened attention on national security and regional tensions in the Gulf.
The ruling follows legal proceedings involving allegations of activities considered a threat to Kuwait’s leadership and state security. Authorities have treated the matter as a serious national security case amid broader concerns about foreign interference and political stability in the region.
The court also sentenced eight other defendants to five years in prison each for their alleged involvement in the case. Prosecutors accused the group of collaborating with Iran and Lebanon’s Hezbollah, planning hostile activities against Kuwait and attempting to undermine the country’s national interests. They also alleged that explosives were intended to be used in the planned operation.
However, the death sentences are not yet final, as the case is subject to appeal. The ruling comes amid heightened security concerns across the Gulf region, where governments remain sensitive to allegations of foreign espionage, political violence and threats against senior officials.
