Brazilian football star Neymar Jr. could face a suspension of up to six matches after being referred to Brazil’s Sports Tribunal over an alleged disciplinary breach during a league encounter involving Santos and Bahia.
The incident reportedly occurred during Santos’ 1–0 victory over Bahia, when Neymar received a red card following a heated exchange with Bahia midfielder Rodrigo Nestor. The Santos forward was accused of covering his mouth with his hand while arguing with his opponent.
Nestor later described Neymar’s alleged remarks as disrespectful to both him and the Bahia team. Bahia have also expressed their displeasure over what they described as verbal abuse during the match.
Neymar, however, offered a different account of the confrontation, accusing Nestor of using what he described as one of football’s dirtiest tricks. The disagreement has since drawn attention to the conduct of players during heated moments on the pitch.
The case is expected to be considered by the relevant disciplinary authorities, with a hearing scheduled for Wednesday. If found guilty of the alleged offence, Neymar could face a suspension of up to six matches, potentially affecting Santos’ upcoming fixtures.
