Lionel Messi has received tributes from former club FC Barcelona and current team Inter Miami CF following his receipt of the prestigious Princess of Asturias Award for Sports.
The Argentine football icon was honoured at a ceremony in Oviedo, Spain, on Friday, October 23, in recognition of his remarkable career and contributions to the game. The award also acknowledges the values he has demonstrated throughout his career, including teamwork, friendship and fair play.
Barcelona celebrated the recognition of their former captain, who spent more than two decades with the Spanish club, winning numerous domestic and international trophies. Messi scored 672 goals and won 35 titles during his time at the Camp Nou, establishing himself as one of the most influential players in the club’s history.
Inter Miami also joined in celebrating the achievement, recognising the forward’s continued impact on football. Messi’s success with the American side has further strengthened his legacy as one of the sport’s most celebrated figures.

His selection reflects not only his achievements on the pitch but also his charitable efforts and commitment to helping disadvantaged children gain access to education and healthcare.
