Nigeria’s senior men’s cricket team, the YellowGreens, have secured a place in the Africa Regional Final qualifying stage after defeating Lesotho by seven wickets at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional Qualifier C in Abuja.
The Nigerian side delivered an impressive bowling performance, dismissing Lesotho for just 62 runs in 12.5 overs after the visitors elected to bat first. Captain Chima Akachukwu led from the front, claiming four wickets for 14 runs, while Elochukwu Ndubudem and Kenneth Boniface picked up two wickets each.
Lesotho struggled to build a competitive total despite an unbeaten 26 from Tsepiso Chaoana, who offered some resistance with the bat. Nigeria’s disciplined bowling attack kept the pressure on throughout the innings, leaving the opposition with a modest target to defend.
In response, the YellowGreens reached 65 runs for the loss of three wickets in just 7.4 overs, completing the chase with 74 balls remaining. Ridwan Abdulkareem scored an unbeaten 28, while Miracle Akhigbe contributed 26 not out as the pair combined to guide Nigeria home after three early wickets.
The victory extended Nigeria’s unbeaten run in the competition and confirmed their progression to the next qualifying stage. The hosts are now set to face Uganda in their final group fixture on Sunday, October 25, as they aim to maintain their winning momentum and finish the Abuja campaign strongly.
