Nigerian students aged 18 and above can benefit from a share ownership scheme introduced by the Aliko Dangote Foundation, which offers eligible participants 10 additional shares in Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE at no extra cost.
The initiative, known as the Student Share Grant Initiative, is designed to encourage financial literacy, responsible investment and long-term wealth creation among students in recognised public and private tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
Under the programme, qualified students must first complete the required verification process and purchase a minimum of 10 refinery shares through the designated subscription platform. The foundation will then fund an application for an additional 10 shares on behalf of eligible participants.
The scheme provides young Nigerians with an opportunity to gain practical experience in the capital market while learning about savings, investment decisions and asset ownership.
Chairman of the foundation, Aliko Dangote, said the initiative was intended to extend support for young people beyond education by equipping them with opportunities to participate in economic growth and build wealth over time.
He explained that introducing students to investment at an early age could help them develop better financial habits and make informed decisions about their future.
The Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, Zouera Youssoufou, said the programme would allow participants to experience the investment process, including verification, share subscription and eventual ownership.
She added that the initiative was intended to make financial education more practical by allowing students to apply the knowledge they acquire.
The foundation stated that applicants must follow the designated registration and verification procedures before proceeding to the approved subscription platform.
It also clarified that the grant is strictly for the eligible student’s personal benefit and cannot be used to purchase shares for another individual or invest in other companies within or outside the Dangote Group.
However, the foundation emphasised that participation in the scheme is voluntary and should not be regarded as investment advice or a recommendation to purchase the refinery’s shares.
Prospective participants have been advised to study the official initial public offering documents carefully and understand the associated investment risks before committing their money.
The initiative forms part of efforts to broaden young Nigerians’ participation in investment activities and promote a culture of financial awareness and responsible wealth creation.
