Internally displaced persons at the Malkohi Permanent IDP Camp in Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa State have received a major boost in access to water following the installation of a solar-powered borehole by Caritas Nigeria.

The facility, commissioned on Wednesday, has a capacity of 60,000 litres and is expected to ease the difficulties faced by displaced families in obtaining water for drinking and other domestic needs.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Executive Secretary of Caritas Nigeria, Rev. Fr. Peter Babangida, said the intervention was designed to improve living conditions and reduce the time residents spend searching for water, particularly women and children who often bear the greatest burden.

Babangida urged the Adamawa State Government, community leaders and camp residents to take responsibility for protecting and maintaining the facility to ensure its continued operation. He described the project as a demonstration of practical support for vulnerable people affected by displacement.

The Bishop of Yola Diocese, Stephen Mamza, represented by Rev. Fr. Maurice Kwaranga, commended Caritas Nigeria and its development partners for supporting the project. Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, Reintegration and Humanitarian Services, Bello Diram, represented by Permanent Secretary Amos Piribu, praised the intervention and warned against vandalising the facility.
