Experts have urged Nigerian organisations to approach the deployment of agentic artificial intelligence with clear rules and human oversight.
The advice was given during an EY Nigeria Alumni Association event held to mark EY Global Alumni Week, where professionals examined the growing role of AI systems that can independently perform tasks and execute decisions.
According to the experts, the technology could significantly change the way organisations handle routine operations, customer requests and complex business processes.
They, however, stressed that companies should not allow AI agents unrestricted access to sensitive information or critical systems. Appropriate controls, monitoring mechanisms and approval procedures should be established before the technology is deployed.
The speakers also highlighted the potential applications of agentic AI in sectors such as financial services, insurance and government, particularly where large volumes of processes require coordination and quick responses.
They said responsible adoption would require organisations to balance the efficiency offered by autonomous AI with accountability, data protection and continued human supervision.
