The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Dr. Binyerem Ukaire, has praised Abia State Governor Alex Otti for his administration’s performance, while seeking government assistance to improve the working conditions of the Federal Information Centre in the state.
Ukaire made the appeal on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, during a visit to the governor’s office in Umuahia, where she raised concerns about the absence of suitable accommodation for the federal agency.
She explained that the situation had become a challenge for the centre’s personnel and requested the state government’s intervention through the provision of an appropriate building or available office space.
Responding to the request, Otti asked the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, to work with relevant officials to identify possible locations for the centre. He assured the delegation that the government would give the matter due consideration.
Beyond the accommodation request, the meeting highlighted the relationship between the Abia administration and federal institutions operating within the state.
Otti said his government remained open to partnerships that would improve public services, regardless of whether the institutions involved belonged to the federal or state government. He maintained that the welfare of residents remained the central consideration in the implementation of government policies.
The governor cited work undertaken at the Nigerian Navy College of Accounts and Finance in Owerrinta and a Nigerian Air Force facility as examples of his administration’s support for federal establishments.
He also thanked the ministry for publicising developments in Abia, noting that effective communication was important in informing Nigerians about the state’s ongoing transformation.
Otti further congratulated Ukaire on her appointment as a federal permanent secretary representing the South-East geopolitical zone and expressed his administration’s readiness to maintain a cordial relationship with her office.
In her assessment of the state, Ukaire commended the government for its initiatives in transportation, infrastructure, healthcare, education and environmental management. She also recognised its efforts in public service reform, pension administration, workers’ welfare and financial management.
The permanent secretary particularly referenced the Nnenna Otti Bus Terminal and the introduction of electric buses as notable features of the state’s development programme.
She said the Federal Information Centre would continue working to ensure that government policies and programmes were communicated accurately and responsibly to the public. Its responsibilities, she added, included public enlightenment, national unity and the dissemination of credible information.
Ukaire was accompanied by the centre’s head, Mrs. Gloria Abiakam. Other officials present included the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, media aides to the governor and the Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Information, Sir Chris Onwuegbu.
