The families of 17 deceased police officers in Kano State have received a total of N7.57 million in insurance compensation from the Nigeria Police Force.
The financial assistance, amounting to N7,573,231.83, was distributed at the Kano State Police Command headquarters in Bompai on Monday. The payment was made through the force’s Group Life Assurance Scheme to provide support for relatives of officers who died in the line of duty.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, presented the cheques to the beneficiaries, describing the intervention as part of efforts to address the welfare needs of families whose loved ones died in service to the nation.
According to the command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, the exercise aligns with the welfare priorities of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, particularly in ensuring that families of deceased personnel receive their entitled benefits.
Bakori assured the recipients that the command would continue to pursue measures aimed at improving the welfare of officers and their dependants. He also emphasised the need to ensure that insurance payments and other benefits due to deceased or injured personnel were handled promptly.
One of the beneficiaries, retired Assistant Superintendent of Police Ado Sule, thanked the police authorities for the assistance. He represented his family in receiving the benefit following the death of his wife and offered prayers for the departed officers.
The event was attended by senior officers of the command, members of its management team and relatives of the deceased personnel.
