Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his political alignment with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, following their reconciliation, pledging to work towards the success of candidates under the Rainbow Coalition in the 2027 general elections.

Fubara made the declaration on Tuesday during the unveiling of the coalition’s candidates at Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt, where he publicly acknowledged Wike as the leader of the political platform.

The governor also appealed to his supporters to stop referring to him as their political leader during meetings, explaining that both camps had reunited and were now operating under the same political structure.

He expressed appreciation to Wike for the role he played in his emergence as governor, describing their renewed relationship as an opportunity to rebuild their political alliance and work towards what he considered the best interests of Rivers State.

The reconciliation follows a prolonged disagreement between the two politicians that began in 2023, shortly after Fubara assumed office. Their differences triggered a major political crisis in the state, resulting in divisions within the Rivers State House of Assembly, legal disputes and attempts to remove the governor from office.

At the event, Wike explained that the Rainbow Coalition was established to bring politicians from different parties together in support of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign in 2027.

The FCT minister urged members of the Peoples Democratic Party across the country to support Tinubu, insisting that political differences should not prevent them from working towards the coalition’s objective.

Wike also criticised opposition figures, including former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, while making a case for the continuation of Tinubu’s administration.

The coalition’s Rivers governorship candidate, Kingsley Ogundu Chinda, subsequently promised to operate an inclusive administration that would accommodate people from different political parties, ethnic backgrounds and religious groups if elected.

Wike further announced that Tinubu was expected to visit Port Harcourt on November 7 for a presidential campaign rally at Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.

Meanwhile, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma distanced his state from the Rainbow Coalition, insisting that the All Progressives Congress remained the political platform his administration would support in the 2027 elections.

Uzodimma made the declaration in Owerri during an event organised by the PBAT Door-to-door Movement, where he called on supporters to mobilise votes for Tinubu and other APC candidates.
