President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accused opposition politicians of contributing to the hunger and poverty confronting Nigerians, insisting that his administration is working to tackle the country’s economic difficulties.
The President made the remarks on Saturday, October 24, during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag-off at Ranchers Bees Stadium in Kaduna State. The rally marked the formal commencement of his campaign for another term ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Tinubu challenged opposition figures who have criticised his government over the rising cost of living, arguing that previous political administrations also bore responsibility for the challenges Nigerians are experiencing. He maintained that his government was taking steps to address the situation and improve living conditions.
The President also defended his administration’s record on salary payments and praised APC governors for what he described as their efforts to promote development in their respective states. He thanked Kaduna residents for supporting him during the 2023 presidential election and appealed for their continued backing in the next poll.
Seeking a fresh mandate, Tinubu promised that a second term would focus on prosperity, continuity, economic recovery and national progress. However, his comments come as the cost of living remains a major issue in the political debate, with opposition leaders challenging the government to demonstrate how its economic policies are improving the daily lives of ordinary Nigerians.
