Political analyst and Arise News Political Editor, Sumner Sambo, has challenged opposition parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), to intensify their political activities if they hope to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Sambo gave the advice while speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show, where he assessed the preparations of political parties ahead of the next election cycle. He argued that issuing press statements and holding media appearances would not be enough to win the confidence of Nigerian voters.
He noted that the APC had already begun mobilising support, with President Bola Tinubu launching his re-election campaign in Kaduna. According to Sambo, opposition parties must move beyond statements from Abuja and establish a stronger presence in communities across the country.
The political editor stressed that voters need to see opposition politicians engaging directly with them at the grassroots level, including in villages, wards and local government areas. He maintained that consistent contact with the electorate would be crucial to building trust and winning support.
Sambo also urged the ADC and NDC to strengthen their internal unity, organisational structures and campaign messages, saying they must present Nigerians with a convincing alternative to the ruling party. He warned that without effective grassroots mobilisation and coordinated planning, the opposition could struggle to challenge the APC successfully in 2027.
