Lawmakers from Akwa Ibom State have expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio following the move to establish a new federal university in the state.
The legislators described the development as a significant step towards expanding access to higher education and creating more opportunities for young people in the South-South region.
They said the institution would help address the growing demand for university admission while providing a platform for academic advancement, research and skills development.
The lawmakers also acknowledged Akpabio’s role in advancing the initiative, noting that sustained engagement with the Federal Government was important in attracting major educational projects to the state.
According to them, the proposed university is expected to contribute to the social and economic development of its host community and surrounding areas through employment opportunities, business activities and improved infrastructure.
They further urged stakeholders to support the successful take-off of the institution, stressing that effective implementation would be necessary to ensure that the project delivers its intended benefits to residents of Akwa Ibom and neighbouring communities.
The development is expected to strengthen the state’s educational sector and widen opportunities for students seeking admission into federal tertiary institutions.
