Nigerian motorists are facing another increase in fuel expenses as MRS and other filling station operators have adjusted their petrol prices upward in parts of the country. The latest development has seen prices at some outlets in Abuja rise to around 1,409 naira and 1,410 naira per litre, adding to the financial pressure on households and businesses.

A market survey showed that MRS filling stations increased their pump price by 39 naira per litre, moving from 1,370 naira to 1,409 naira. Ranoil and AA Rano also reportedly raised their prices by 10 naira, bringing the cost of petrol at their outlets to approximately 1,410 naira per litre.

The increases come amid continued fluctuations in the downstream petroleum market, influenced by changes in supply costs and international crude oil prices. The adjustments have renewed concerns among motorists and commercial transport operators who depend heavily on petrol for their daily activities.

The Federal Government has meanwhile introduced a temporary petrol discount at Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited retail outlets, with the aim of providing some relief to consumers. However, the intervention does not automatically apply to other filling station operators, prompting calls for broader measures to ease the burden on Nigerians.

The latest price changes could have wider implications for transportation fares, food distribution and the operating costs of small businesses that rely on petrol-powered generators. Consumers will be watching closely to see whether further government interventions or changes in supply costs lead to more stable prices in the coming days.
