Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood has praised Nigerian international Alex Iwobi, describing the Fulham midfielder as one of the English Premier League’s most underrated performers following his decisive contribution against Hull City.

Sherwood made the assessment after Iwobi scored the only goal in Fulham’s 1-0 victory over Hull at Craven Cottage on Saturday, October 17, helping the London club secure their first league win of the season.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the encounter, Sherwood highlighted the Nigerian’s consistency and ability to operate in different positions, noting that his contribution to the team deserved greater recognition.

The former Blackburn Rovers player also commended Iwobi’s overall display, stressing that his influence extended beyond the goal that separated both teams.

Iwobi broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute after Sander Berge set him up following Hull’s failure to clear the ball. The Nigerian’s effort took a deflection before slipping past goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis to give Fulham the advantage.

The goal ended a six-match league run without a goal or assist for the 30-year-old, who had created 13 chances during that period. It was also his first goal of the campaign and brought his Premier League tally to 36 goals in 327 appearances, matching former Nigerian striker Peter Odemwingie’s record in the competition.

The victory proved significant for Fulham, lifting them from the bottom of the league table and giving manager Alvaro Arbeloa his first Premier League win in charge. Nigerian defender Calvin Bassey featured for Fulham, while fellow Super Eagles player Semi Ajayi completed the match for Hull City.
