Nigerian filmmakers are set for a competitive contest at the 22nd edition of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), with two Nollywood productions shortlisted for the prestigious Best Film award alongside entries from South Africa, Ghana and other African countries.

The nominated Nigerian films, To Adaego With Love and The Herd, will compete against seven other productions for the continent’s top cinematic honour. The nominees were unveiled at an event held at Radisson Blu, Ikeja GRA, Lagos, on Saturday.

The awards ceremony is scheduled for November 15, 2026, at the Marriott Hotel in Lagos, where filmmakers, actors and other entertainment industry professionals are expected to gather to celebrate excellence in African cinema.

Uganda’s Slum Bomber and Kenya’s One Woman, One Bra emerged as the most nominated productions, earning 14 nominations each. Nigeria’s To Adaego With Love followed with 11 nominations, while Daniel Etim-Effiong’s The Herd secured 10. Colours of Fire received nine nominations.

Other contenders for Best Film include South Africa’s The Trek and Ben Made It, Ghana’s The Fisherman, Côte d’Ivoire’s The Colour of Exile, Uganda’s Slum Bomber, Kenya’s One Woman, One Bra and Cameroon’s Mabanda.

Nigerian talents also featured prominently across the acting and filmmaking categories. Etim-Effiong earned three nominations for his work on The Herd, including Best Director and Best Actor in a Leading Role. He was also recognised in the Best Debut Feature Film by a Director category.

Other Nigerian nominees include Osas Ighodaro, Toyin Abraham, Omowunmi Dada, Uzor Arukwe and Wale Ojo, reflecting Nollywood’s strong presence across several major award categories.

Speaking at the nomination unveiling, AMAA Chief Operating Officer Raymond Anyiam-Osigwe congratulated the shortlisted filmmakers, noting that their recognition represented an important achievement regardless of the final outcome.

He said the nominated productions demonstrated the richness of African storytelling and the continent’s growing capacity to produce films capable of connecting with audiences across cultural and geographical boundaries.

The 2026 edition of AMAA is expected to bring together industry stakeholders from across Africa and beyond, providing a platform to recognise outstanding performances, filmmaking techniques and creative contributions to the continent’s film industry.
