The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmen in Ebonyi State have raised concerns over what they describe as growing threats to democratic principles ahead of the 2027 general elections. They warned that political developments in the state could undermine fair competition and weaken democratic participation.
The party officials called for greater respect for democratic institutions, internal party processes and the rights of opposition groups to operate freely. They stressed that political activities should be conducted in accordance with the law and established electoral guidelines.
The PDP leaders also expressed concern about the political environment facing opposition parties, urging relevant authorities to ensure that all political organisations have equal opportunities to organise, mobilise supporters and present their candidates to the electorate.
They maintained that credible elections depend on transparency, political tolerance and the protection of citizens’ democratic rights. According to their position, stakeholders must work to prevent intimidation and other practices that could discourage participation in the electoral process.
As preparations for the 2027 elections continue, the Ebonyi PDP chairmen urged political leaders, security agencies and electoral authorities to uphold democratic standards and create an environment where voters can make their choices freely. Their concerns add to the wider political debate over opposition participation and electoral fairness in Nigeria.
