Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has dismissed claims that opposition parties are building a “rainbow coalition” to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor maintained that there was no established coalition of the kind being suggested, playing down reports of a united opposition front. His comments come amid growing political discussions and preparations by parties seeking to strengthen their positions before the next election cycle.
During the event in Owerri, Uzodimma warned members of the movement against using campaign vehicles to support candidates outside the APC, threatening to withdraw the vehicles from anyone who violated the directive. The movement distributed 30 vehicles to support grassroots mobilisation for Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
The governor also urged Imo residents to vote for APC candidates across all levels of government, including the governorship, state assembly, National Assembly and presidency. He maintained that the party could secure support in the state based on voters’ assessment of the president’s performance.
The declaration comes amid disagreements between Uzodimma and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over the Rainbow Coalition, a cross-party initiative designed to mobilise support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election while allowing participants to support other parties in legislative and governorship contests. Uzodimma’s position underscores the APC leadership’s concern that such arrangements could weaken the party’s candidates in the forthcoming elections.
