The Nigeria Police Force has reportedly arrested 34 foreign nationals and rescued 29 people said to have been held captive in Benue State, in a security operation aimed at tackling criminal activities in the area.
The operation comes amid ongoing concerns over kidnapping and other security threats affecting communities across the state. The arrests are expected to help investigators establish the circumstances surrounding the suspects’ presence and determine whether they have any connection to criminal networks.
The police commissioner disclosed that the rescued victims included four passengers abducted along the Ayilamo–Tse-Abi Road, 17 farmers taken from communities in Logo Local Government Area, and eight people abducted along the Ugbokolo–Ajegbe–Awume Road. A Catholic priest was among those rescued in the latter incident.
The command also reported recovering locally manufactured firearms and ammunition during operations against suspected criminal groups. Investigations into the arrests and other reported offences are continuing, while the police have urged residents to provide credible information to support efforts to combat kidnapping and improve security across Benue State.
