Christian traditional rulers across southern Nigeria have announced plans to organise a special prayer exercise for President Bola Tinubu, state governors and the country as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
The initiative, organised by the Christian Royal Fathers of Nigeria (CRFN), is expected to focus on national peace, political stability, unity and responsible leadership. The group also called on public office holders to prioritise the welfare of citizens and ensure that democratic governance produces tangible benefits for Nigerians.
The chairman of the organisation, Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu, disclosed that November 29, 2026, had been selected for the prayer programme during an interaction with journalists. He explained that traditional rulers had an important role to play in encouraging good governance and promoting peaceful coexistence within their communities and across the country.
According to Ofoegbu, the prayers would cover President Tinubu, state governors and other political leaders, irrespective of their political parties, ethnic backgrounds or religious beliefs. He said the objective was to encourage leaders to make decisions that would advance national development and strengthen unity.
The royal father also maintained that traditional institutions should assess political leaders based on their commitment to public service rather than party loyalty. He specifically acknowledged Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, for what he described as his contributions to the development of the state.
Also speaking, Eze Oliver Ohanwe, president of the organisation’s Board of Trustees, said the planned exercise was intended to seek divine guidance for Nigeria and its leaders. He expressed hope that the initiative would help sustain peace and stability as political activities increase ahead of the 2027 elections.
Ohanwe disclosed that approximately 5,000 Christian traditional rulers from across southern Nigeria were expected to participate through prayer gatherings and representatives in different locations. He urged Nigerians to support efforts aimed at strengthening national unity and to continue praying for those entrusted with leadership responsibilities.
