The Nigeria Customs Service has explained why some applicants who made the shortlist for its latest recruitment exercise are yet to receive invitations for the next stage of training.
The clarification follows concerns from successful candidates who expected to receive details of the training programme after completing the required recruitment stages.
The Service said shortlisting does not amount to automatic employment, noting that candidates are still subject to additional checks before they can be admitted for training.
According to the Customs authorities, the verification process covers key requirements such as age, educational qualifications, medical fitness and other conditions attached to the recruitment exercise.
The Service also warned that candidates whose records or screening results do not satisfy the required standards could be dropped from the process, despite having their names on the shortlist.
It further stated that passing the recruitment stages and gaining entry into the training programme would still not guarantee final appointment. Candidates would be required to successfully complete the prescribed training and meet the necessary academic, physical and character standards.
The recruitment exercise, which began with hundreds of thousands of applications, is expected to produce new personnel for the Nigeria Customs Service after the completion of the remaining screening and training procedures.
