The Katsina State Police Command has arrested four suspects over alleged railway vandalism and recovered 70 stolen railway sleepers during a security operation aimed at protecting critical public infrastructure.
The arrests followed efforts by security personnel to curb the illegal removal and theft of railway materials, which can undermine transportation infrastructure and expose rail operations to safety risks.
Police authorities said the recovered items would form part of the investigation as officers work to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft and determine whether other individuals were involved.
Railway vandalism remains a concern because the destruction or removal of essential components can lead to costly repairs, disrupt transportation services and threaten the safety of railway operations. Security agencies have continued to call for greater public cooperation in protecting government infrastructure.
The suspects are expected to face the relevant legal process as investigations continue. Police have also urged residents to report suspicious activities around railway facilities and other public assets to help prevent further vandalism.
