Former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uchechukwu Ogah, and ex-Abia Chief of Staff, Prof. A.C.B. Agbazuere, are among the political heavyweights appointed by Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, to serve on the Labour Party Campaign Advisory Council for the 2027 general elections.
Also appointed is Chief Daniel Okeke, a former All Progressives Congress candidate for the Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, who recently announced his move to the Labour Party.
The appointments bring together political figures with experience across different administrations, alongside legal practitioners, business leaders and community stakeholders from Abia’s 17 local government areas. The council is expected to provide advice and contribute to the party’s preparations for the coming elections.
At the head of the team is former Deputy Governor of Abia State and ex-Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu, who will serve as chairman.
The list also features former Senator Chris Adighije, Chief Ncheta Omerekpe, Chief Johnson Chukwu, Engr. Enyinnaya Nwafor, Senator Bob Nwannunu, Rt. Hon. Arua Arunsi, Ambassador Okey Emuchay, Chief Leslie Ezeikpe and Chief Jackson Agbai. Senior Advocates of Nigeria Dr. Monday Ubani, Ken Ahia and Chief Umeh Kalu are also members.
Ogah previously served in the Federal Government as Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development and hails from Isuikwuato Local Government Area. Agbazuere, from Isiala Ngwa South, formerly served as Abia’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice before becoming Chief of Staff.
Okeke contested the Arochukwu/Ohafia federal seat on the APC platform in 2023 before his recent decision to join the Labour Party, adding another political figure with electoral experience to the council.
Governor Otti has charged the appointees to bring their knowledge, commitment and influence within their communities to bear on the party’s activities. He expressed confidence in their ability to make useful contributions towards the Labour Party’s electoral ambitions.
The council will be inaugurated on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at the Umuahia Township Stadium. According to a statement issued on Monday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Citizen Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, the programme will begin with a church service, with members expected to be seated by noon.
The ceremony will form part of the activities marking the formal commencement of the Labour Party’s governorship campaign in Abia State.
