Academic and non-academic activities in Lagos State-owned universities are facing disruption after four staff unions announced an immediate and indefinite industrial action.
The unions involved are the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, SSANU, NASU and the National Association of Academic Technologists, NAAT. Their Joint Action Committee said the decision followed the expiration of a final seven-day ultimatum issued to the Lagos State Government.
The affected institutions include Lagos State University, Lagos State University College of Medicine, Lagos State University of Science and Technology, and Lagos State University of Education.
The unions are demanding the implementation of agreements covering salaries, allowances and welfare, as well as the payment of outstanding arrears dating back to January 2026. They are also seeking a 15 percent additional allowance to reflect the higher cost of living in Lagos.
The Lagos State Government had earlier said it was working towards resolving the dispute and was awaiting approval for the release of funds. However, the unions say the strike will continue until the agreed terms are formally approved and implemented.
