Rangers International have formally petitioned the Confederation of African Football (CAF), seeking action over alleged misconduct by supporters of Algerian club MC Alger during their recent CAF Champions League encounter in Nigeria.
They raised concerns over reported disturbances at the stadium, including alleged damage to facilities and the conduct of visiting supporters. The club wants the continental football body to examine the incidents and take appropriate steps to prevent similar occurrences.
The petition comes ahead of the return leg in Algeria, with Rangers keen to ensure that adequate security arrangements are provided for the visiting team, match officials and other participants.
Rangers’ concerns follow their 2-0 victory in the first-leg encounter at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Despite being reduced to 10 players early in the match, the Nigerian club found the breakthrough late in the second half.
Kenneth Igboke converted a penalty in the 84th minute before James Emo doubled Rangers’ advantage three minutes later, giving the team a valuable lead going into the return fixture.
The match also saw MC Alger finish with 10 men after Oussama Benhaoua was sent off following a second booking.
With qualification for the CAF Champions League group stage at stake, Rangers will be hoping for a favourable outcome from their petition while preparing for the decisive encounter in Algeria.
