The Nigerian Army has altered the operational jurisdiction of the 17 Brigade, bringing the formation under the 1 Division as part of measures to strengthen its military command system.
The brigade, which had operated under the 8 Division, was formally transferred to the 1 Division during a handover ceremony held at Natsinta Cantonment in Katsina.
The adjustment follows the Federal Government’s approval for the expansion of the Army’s divisional structure from eight to 12 divisions, with the aim of improving troop deployment and making responses to security threats more coordinated.
The development is expected to give the 1 Division greater operational responsibility in its area of jurisdiction while improving the Army’s ability to respond to emerging threats in the North-West.
Speaking during the ceremony, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division, Major General Abubakar Saddique Muhammed Wase, described the restructuring as an important step towards enhancing military effectiveness and strengthening ongoing security operations.
