Former Rivers State governor and ADC vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, says he would reconsider his political position ahead of the 2027 presidential election if petrol sells for 600 naira per litre.
Amaechi made the statement while questioning whether Nigerians have experienced the promised reduction in transportation costs following changes in petrol prices.
He specifically pointed to the cost of travelling between Nyanya and Abuja, asking whether commuters have actually seen a significant reduction in fares. He argued that many Nigerians are still struggling with high transportation and living expenses.
Amaechi said he was prepared to personally visit a filling station to verify the pump price if petrol reaches 600 naira. He stated that, under that condition, he would withdraw from the ADC presidential ticket as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate and campaign for President Bola Tinubu.
The comments come amid growing political debate over fuel prices, economic reforms and the cost of living as political parties and candidates position themselves ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
