The political landscape in Ogun State has received a boost for the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the decision of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo community to support President Bola Tinubu and Senator Solomon Adeola ahead of the 2027 elections.
The group, which represents the interests of Igbo people living in the state, has pledged its backing for Tinubu’s second-term ambition and Adeola’s quest to become the next governor of Ogun State.
The endorsement also comes with plans to honour Adeola with the chieftaincy title of Dike Eji Eje Mba. The proposed ceremony is expected to take place in Abeokuta before the end of October, according to information released by the senator’s media office.
Speaking on behalf of the organisation, its state president, Eze Stephen Okorie, pointed to Adeola’s contributions to infrastructure and commercial development as reasons for the group’s decision. He specifically highlighted road projects and improvements to market facilities, which he said were important to traders and other residents.
Okorie also drew attention to Ogun West Senatorial District’s longstanding ambition to produce a governor, expressing hope that the 2027 election would provide an opportunity for the district to occupy the state’s highest political office. He disclosed that he had personally invested in campaign materials promoting Tinubu and Adeola.
Adeola, in his response, recognised the importance of the Igbo community to Ogun State’s economic development and thanked its leadership for the show of confidence. He said his approach to governance would focus on development that benefits all residents, without discrimination based on ethnic origin or religious beliefs.
Among those present at the meeting were Ogun State APC deputy governorship candidate, Alhaja Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa Balogun; Minister of State for Health and Social Services, Dr Kunle Salako; and Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Jimoh Ojugbele, alongside other political stakeholders.
