Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that he will resign from office if President Bola Tinubu loses the 2027 presidential election in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory. Wike made the statement during an engagement with mechanics and traders in Abuja.
The minister said his political standing in both locations would be a measure of his ability to mobilise support for the President. He described Rivers as his home state and Abuja as the place where he currently serves, saying he would accept responsibility if Tinubu fails to secure victory in the two areas.
Wike further stated that the presidential election is scheduled for January 16, 2027, and that he would announce his resignation the following day if the stated outcome occurs. He also reaffirmed his support for Tinubu’s bid for another term in office.
The FCT minister also spoke about a proposed multi-party political arrangement in Abuja aimed at mobilising support for candidates ahead of the elections. He said the arrangement would involve people from different political parties while maintaining his stated support for Tinubu at the presidential level.
Wike’s position comes amid continuing debate over his cross-party political activities ahead of 2027. While he remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, he has maintained that his support for Tinubu does not prevent the PDP from fielding candidates for governorship and legislative elections.
