The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency in Ebonyi State, Agwu Ama Agwu, has criticised the quality of political representation in the area, claiming that residents have yet to experience the full benefits of democratic governance. He said his decision to contest the 2027 House of Representatives election was driven by the need to change what he described as years of inadequate representation.
Speaking in an interview, Agwu argued that successive leaders had failed to adequately reflect the needs and aspirations of their constituents. He questioned whether elected officials had consistently prioritised the collective interests of the people, insisting that representation should translate into visible improvements in their daily lives.
The NDC candidate said his proposed approach would centre on a “people-first” agenda, with regular consultations to identify the most pressing needs of residents. He explained that the priorities expressed by constituents would guide his legislative focus and efforts to attract development to the constituency.
Agwu also maintained that his political decisions would be guided by the demands of the electorate rather than pressure from influential political figures or godfathers. He said residents must have a meaningful voice in determining the issues their representatives pursue at the National Assembly.
As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, Agwu’s comments add to the debate over accountability, effective representation and grassroots development. He is seeking the mandate of voters in Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency, promising to make the interests of the people central to his proposed legislative service.
