The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has warned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress against underestimating voters in Northern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections. He maintained that the region’s electorate would not allow financial inducements to determine its political choices.
Baba-Ahmed made the remarks in a Facebook post, questioning what supporters of the President’s re-election bid would tell residents across several Northern states, including Zamfara, Kebbi, Sokoto, Katsina, Borno, Yobe, Kaduna, Kwara, Plateau, Kogi and Nasarawa.
The PRP leader alleged that the ruling party could attempt to secure support through widespread distribution of money during its campaign. He argued that financial incentives would not automatically erase public dissatisfaction with the administration, insisting that voters would consider their experiences and the issues affecting their lives.
He further stressed that the dignity and constitutional rights of citizens must be respected, warning against any attempt to manipulate or overturn the outcome of the 2027 election. According to him, the final results must reflect the genuine choices of Nigerians at the ballot box.
Baba-Ahmed’s comments come as political parties intensify preparations and mobilisation ahead of the next presidential election. His warning adds to the growing debate over vote-buying, public confidence in the electoral process and the need for political parties to earn voters’ support through credible policies and performance rather than financial inducements.
